Maine DOC vs. Wake Forest Debate Abolishing Life without Parole

The National Prison Debate League (NPDL) is partnering with the State of Maine DOC and the Wake Forest University Debate Team

The state of Maine does not currently have a parole system, but on April 25th at 1:00 PM EST a team of incarcerated students from Maine State Prison (MSP) & Bolduc Correctional Facility (BCF) will have the unique opportunity to make the case for freedom.

Resolved: The United States should abolish Life Without Parole (LWOP) sentences.

Coached by NPDL volunteer and former Director of Debate at the University of New Mexico Tom Jewell, the Maine team will argue in favor of abolishing LWOP. Standing in their way, none other than the 2023 ADA National Champs, Wake Forest University, led by American Forensic Association President Jarrod Atchison. Who could possibly moderate such a contest? As someone with the lived experience of being wrongfully convicted and sentenced to Life Without Parole in Massachusetts, NPDL Director of Community Engagement Clarence Williams will moderate this crucial discussion. You do not want to miss this made-for-TV NPDL Spring finale event.
